Simple Steps to Food Safety



Summer isn’t complete without grilling favorites, such as; hamburgers, hotdogs, smoked meats, vegetables, etc.  Although BBQ’s bring great memories and the fellowship of others, they can also bring foodborne illnesses. Common foodborne illnesses are Shigella, Salmonella, and E. coli.  The improper preparation and storage of food are the culprits to contraction of foodborne illnesses. Discover the 4 Simple Steps to Food Safety below:

  1. Clean – Clean all produce before eating; wash hands before food preparation; and clean workspaces before and after use

  2. Separate – Separate produce from raw meats to avoid cross contamination

  3. Cook – Cook to proper temperatures; use a food thermometer.   Did you know the “Danger Zone” is between 40-140 degrees Fahrenheit?

  4. Chill – Refrigerate promptly and properly; chill cooked foods
