NyKedtra M. Brown is a native of Aurora, a small rural town in Eastern North Carolina. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2000.  She is also a graduate of Duke University where she received her Master of Science in Nursing in 2005.  In 2006, she became Board Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

NyKedtra is currently practicing as a Primary Care Provider in a Federally Qualified Health Center AND works full-time in her non-profit, Zing Life Services.  She has worked with thousands of patients over the years in a variety of settings which include hospital, office, and retail health.  The work done in rural health with minorities, underserved, uninsured, and disadvantaged populations really fueled her passion to start Zing Life Services Inc. in 2014. It is important that ongoing efforts are made to reduce health disparities, inequalities and to decrease barriers to health care.  With all of the advances in healthcare and disease management over the years, minority populations continue to be affected in higher numbers with higher mortalities by things that can be prevented or managed.

 

She is also the founder of a Virtual Women Health and Wellness group named Stroked By Love (SBL). This group is responsible for helping over 150 women lose over 2000 pounds, decrease blood pressure and diabetes medications along with allowing women to make themselves and health a priority.

NyKedtra is married with two children and loves God.  In her free time, she loves to sit and sip on decaf coffee, read the Word and spend time with family/friends. She is the first female President of Oak Grove Athletic Association in Durham, NC where her children started their love of sports. NyKedtra is a two time author and speaker. She sits on various committees and enjoys community service.

"When you know better, you do better" is one of NyKedtra's favorite sayings.  It is her desire to educate, teach, empower and train minorities and all individuals who desire to make better health decisions.  It has been said that our people perish for lack of knowledge.  NyKedtra wants to change that one person at a time.
